In a world that idolises instant answers and fast results, author and pastor DawnChere Wilkerson offers a refreshing, grounded reminder: waiting isn’t a detour — it’s life.

In her book ‘Slow Burn’, DawnChere shares candidly about her 8-year infertility journey and the deeper spiritual truths she uncovered in the process.

“Waiting is not a season, it’s life,” DawnChere said.

“The invitation for me is, am I going to live in the wait?”

While hoping for a child, DawnChere and her husband Rich continued to carry the demands of leading Vous Church in Miami, and saw how easy it was in the fullness of daily life to try and distract from the waiting.

“We think we’re waiting on God, but God is actually waiting on us to open up our eyes to what He’s already provided,” DawnChere said.

It’s also very tempting to want to isolate when we’re in the pain of waiting.

“I thought I could do it in my own strength,” DawnChere said.

“But I realised I really need community. And guess what? I still need people.”

Now a Mum of four, DawnChere believes community connection is vital through seasons of vulnerability.

“We all need each other because God has created us to walk in community,” DawnChere said.

For those struggling in the “not-yet” of life, DawnChere stresses how important it is to immerse ourselves in God’s word and be honest about the struggle.

“Read God’s Word and talk to Him,” DawnChere said.

“Sometimes the only thing that needs to change is my attitude [and] I really need the presence of God for that.”

Reflecting on her wait, DawnChere considers it with tenderness.

“I wouldn’t take back any part of the eight-year journey,” DawnChere said. “I think it formed who I am today.”.

DawnChere Wilkerson’s book ‘Slow Burn’ is out now.
